B & B By the Sea

Bed and BBQ By The Sea is located on peaceful South Pender in a rainforest environment.  We are surrounded by tall evergreen trees and look out over Browning Harbour across from Razor Point. Our weather is dry and pleasant during the summer while winter is a mild rain with the occasional wind storm.

Our B & B is one fenced acre on the ocean. The owner is an avid gardener so if artistic endeavours are your interest, there are usually lots of colourful flowers to draw or paint. The gardens and ocean landscapes are inspiring. We often watch sailboats, kayakers, Otters, Blue Herons, Eagles and Osprey from the deck which stretches 60 ft across the front of the home. A BBQ grill is located on this deck along with a glass patio table, and a few comfortable chairs for relaxing, reading, or eating outdoors. There is a separate driveway for B & B clients with room to park 2 vehicles. A walk down outside stairs to the lower deck, takes you to private entrances to the waterfront bedroom or the Common room.

In the Common room, there are limited cooking facilities for those interested in economy for their Pender Island visit. There is a large screen TV, easy chairs, microwave, toaster, griddle, coffee pot, electric tea kettle, refrigerator, dishes, cutlery, and cookware. Bringing your own food is the most economic way to experience The Penders. We are located about equal distance between the Driftwood Shopping Centre,  Browning Harbour Bar and Restaurant, and the more prestigious Poet's Cove Resort. There are pools at both establishments. The Driftwood Centre has a Pharmacy, Jo's Place Restaurant ( REALLY good food for reasonable prices), Liquor Store, Island Savings Bank, Book store, Clothing store, Post Office and Grocery store.  There are ATM machines located in the Gas Station Store, the True Value Grocery Store, and the Pharmacy.

We are less than a kilometre from Mortimer Spit which has public access to the beach. Boats and kayaks can be launched there easily. There are about 40 ocean access trails on North and South Pender Island. The home is located between the 2 entrances to the Beaumont Hiking Trails.  Both are within walking distance, if you are a hiker. These trails are free, safe and easily accessed. Since Pender Island doesn't have bears or cougars, walking is fun and safe anywhere.  Cyclists often come to Pender to enjoy our scenery and mountain roads. You may meet some of our numerous deer on the road or trails. Evening is the best time to count deer. Birders will enjoy our huge variety of songbirds and water birds. Bring your binoculars and cameras. Our fenced yard is large enough to accommodate storing your bicycles, motor bikes or kayaks safely for the night.

When you arrive you will have your own entrance gate and driveway. There is enough parking for 2 vehicles. The waterfront bedroom has it's own entrance into the home and ensuite.
This waterfront bedroom has a King size bed with Tempur-pedic mattress and ensuit. Wake up to sea views and a garden full of flowers in spring and summer.

Reserve this room for $110 a night.
This second bedroom has comfortable twin beds suitable for a second couple, adult children, or mature teens.
The bathroom would have to be shared.
We do not accommodate toddlers or young children due to our steep hillside, coastal topography, and the fact the owner is an obsessive gardener, and would be upset if her plants were trampled... kids will be kids. There is a large dresser.

Clients would share the adjoining family room with large screen TV, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, tea kettle, dishes, cookware, flat electric grill and large bbq on the upper deck. They would have their own entrance. This room is available for $75 a night.
Sunset looking towards Port Browning
The only "downside" I can rationalize, in coming to the B & B By The Sea, is that there are 2 large friendly Bouvier des Flandres in residence. If you are not a "doggie" type person, they will make you feel uncomfortable with their curiosity, playfulness and presence. They will be kept upstairs in their home so they won't bother clients. However, since they tend to be mischievous, and  sometimes demonstrate Houdini traits, please be aware of their presence.
We have a " No Pet" policy at our B & B due to not wanting to cause problems with our dogs.
They are show dogs and have been exposed to all manner of germs on show circuits.
They are healthy, strong and very curious.

We also have a parrot.
Children under 15 and fragile persons would not do well here
due to the steepness of our property, the stairs, and location near a cliff.

NO SMOKING ... of any kind will be allowed.

Our B & B has 2 large solid Bouviers in residence. They are friendly and full of nonsense. You would have to be "doggie" person to feel comfortable at B & B  By The Sea.

Please do not feed our dogs. They will employ any amount of charm to convince you to share.

If you have questions concerning your visit to Pender Islands, please feel free to call,
and the owner will do her best to find you the answers.
Pender is like stepping back in time in many ways. Penderites are friendly and welcoming.
The air is relatively clean and fresh. We are in no hurry.
Our bumper stickers say," What's your hurry ? We're on Pender time !
Come, relax, and enjoy your stay.
